National Engagement Strategy for Austria

Under the guidance of the Club of Rome – Austrian Chapter.

Earth4All goes to Austria

Since the publication of its first report, “The Limits to Growth,” the Club of Rome has stood for forward thinking and scientific renown. Building on this, the Earth4All Initiative – initiated by the Club of Rome – published a new report to the Club of Rome in September 2022, “Earth4All: A Survival Guide for Humanity.”

The report further develops the concepts of “The Limits to Growth” and discusses two different scenarios based on systemic and scientific principles:

  • Too Little too Late – business as usual, we continue as we have for the last 40 years.
  • We create a giant leap (“The Giant leap”) – a vision for a sustainable global society at the end of this century.

As the Austrian Chapter of the Club of Rome, we in Austria are the first country worldwide to take up this vision and contribute to the discussion and implementation of these 5 turnarounds (see below) together with the 15 proposed measures on a national level.

A discussion about “National Engagement” is now also taking place in Kenya (🔗PEP leads the National Engagement Strategy for Earth4All in Kenya). Other countries will soon follow (🔗https://earth4all.life/country-level-engagement/).

Earth4All Austria

Since summer 2023, we have been working with numerous stakeholders to – slowly – form a common “Giant Leap” vision for Austria. The first “Earth4All Austria” report will be published in summer 2024. We see this as an impetus for a broad discourse in Austria, which we would like to encourage politicians and civil society to engage in.

The first steps and activities to implement these turnarounds and the corresponding measures in the sense of a “Wellbeing Economy” are planned in four areas, which will also complement and enrich each other: Research, Citizen Engagement, Advocacy and Public Relations.

We have already set initial step in all of these areas and, within this broad framework, we would like to bring together a collective of organizations and individuals who will contribute their expertise in the respective areas and ensure that the results are disseminated.

The aim is to gather experience that can then be implemented in other countries and regions as well.

The aim of Earth4All in Austria is therefore to bring the relevant stakeholders together and not only talk about the “what” needs to be done, but to jointly initiate a plan for the “how” – the implementation.

This requires expert input, systemic & shared thinking, an understanding of the urgency of the measures and motivation to transform the systems in which we live.

Would you like to share this vision with your network? Would you like to help think about how a vision of the future for Austria and the world can be realized and work on a corresponding story for Austria? Then get in touch with us!

We look forward to working with you. The first steps have already been taken and 4 out of the 5 turnarounds have been discussed at public events. The Empowerment turnaround is still pending (🔗 Event on May 17, 2024, Empowerment turnaround).

We will present the report to the public for the first time on July 8 as part of the Vienna Climate Biennale. Come along and join the discussion!

The five extraordinary turnarounds to achieve the Giant Leap scenario

Earth4All has identified five extraordinary turnarounds needed to create wellbeing for all on a (relatively) stable planet.

  • Eliminate poverty (global perspective)
  • Reduce inequality (national perspective)
  • Empower women
  • Transform food systems
  • The energy turnaround

These five turnarounds hold the potential to bring about real systems change and can be achieved by implementing key policy goals.

Five turnarounds to rethink economic growth as a measure of progress and set our societies on a safe pathway to wellbeing for all.

The story of Earth4All
