Earth4All is pleased to be a partner of the 10th European Conference on Sustainable Cities & Towns taking place in Aalborg, Denmark, from 1-3 October 2024.
Across Europe, cities and towns of all sizes are developing Local Green Deals, as a response to the European Green Deal. At the European Conference on Sustainable Cities & Towns – Aalborg2024 – we will take a closer look at the ongoing trends, challenges and opportunities that define these Local Green Deals, as well as ask how we can become powerful enablers of sustainable, local change.
Programme highlights
1 October, 9:00-10:00: Breaking the spiral of inaction
The clock is ticking! How much time do we have left, and why aren’t we moving faster? The window for action to address urgent crises like climate change and biodiversity loss is closing. Are we ready to break free from the spiral of inaction? Now is the time for bold actions, immediate investments and addressing fears of overburdening among certain societal groups and individuals.
Join us for a plenary session with speaker Sandrine Dixson-Declève, co-author of Earth for All: A Survival Guide for Humanity and co-President of the Club of Rome that outlines the state of play and explores how to unlock and empower local governance in the democratic transformation towards a climate-neutral, sustainable, equitable, and resilient Europe.
2 October, 11:00-12:30: Local, regional and national governments together for climate neutral cities
Local governments are at the forefront of the fight against climate change, but there is only so much they can do on their own. Without joint action with national and regional governments, cities will struggle to accelerate their climate action. There is an increasing momentum for stronger multi-level collaboration at the UN level through initiatives like the Coalition for High Ambition on Multilevel Partnerships, and the EU level through various initiatives.
Speakers: Tue Damsø (CONCITO), Sandrine Dixson-Declève (Club of Rome, Earth4All), Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh (Mayor of Malmö), Philippe Froissard (DG RTD)
